Tease Pet Peeves?

I was thinking about what separates a good tease and a bad tease, recently. Things that I'd like to see more of and things that should be banished for all time. While I couldn't really pick out what really makes a good tease "shine", as it comes down more to the Authors personal abilities and "X-factor" there are some things that should be obviously bad moves to include in a tease. I could list what I feel are the worst, but stating my opinion here has led to unexpected outcomes in the past. SO I figured the best thing to do would be to ask the community at large what they feel should NOT be done in a tease.

Okay, one to get started.

Being told to edge on the first page. The scene has barely been set, we don't know what we're getting into or have anything to excitedly anticipate. If you're as Jaded as I am, you might not even be at full mast yet and before anything else happens we have to get most of the way there by ourselves. 9/10 if I see that I'll just go straight back to the Webteases front page without a second look.

So, anyone else feel like sharing?

this is a tricky subject and a slippery slope. this whole community is built around the premise of exploration and acceptance. saying something should be banned because a few people, or even most people, negates that entire premise.

2 things,

first, isn't there are rating system for the webteases?

and second, speaking as someone who has never created a web tease,in my opinion, I would say that I'm entitled to 2 things.. to play the tease or not... if I like it.. I play it.. if not, I don't. Using streaming porn sites as an example, you can complain about things you don't like all day it doesn't change the 2 things you're entitled to. Watch, or not.

I tend to pass on webteases that have an inordinate amount of reading on a timer... I am a slow reader and trying to make me focus on reading something while on a clock while I am aroused just doesn't mix well with me. lol

I agree with freakygeak, although there are some things that are not so much related to the content of the tease, but more to its form and structure:

• Asking to visit external sites via obfuscated links. (e.g. "bit.ly/totallynotascam" )
• Horrible spelling
• Ant-sized images
• Requiring items without telling upfront that they will be needed. (e.g. "Get 50 icecubes". Just say that upfront so that I can make them.
• Requiring tasks on an unrealistic timer. (e.g. "Get 50 icecubes", after which a 60 second countdown starts)

Agree w/ the comments already made -- Spelling, grammar, are major peeves.

I suggest any tease including offsite links have all links posted in a single forum post here - some people did that a while ago, which makes following them easier. Having to suddenly type some cryptic URL gobblydygook in the middle of a tease TOTALLY breaks the mood and/or arousal. Better to have a list of URLs you can have ready to go plug into another browser window when the tease starts.

Tiny-tiny fonts on Flash teases ... especially when you're asking us to read tons of text per page. Squinting ain't sexy!

For me, having totally unrealistic expectations or tasks is a major turnoff - whether its a matter of timing (as someone said), or just an unrealistic plot. I know some people are more creative/mature than others, and certainly some teases are posted here probably weren't intended for quality public consumption but as a representation of one's own fantasy....which is totally fine, by the way. I just stop playing and move on.

I don't like teases that focus almost entirely on stroking. Metronomes are a turn-off, too much edging is and for gods sake, stop these long-ass timers I often have to download a tease and edit the timers for myself. Well, at least I did when it was working with TeaseMe.

Also, I need long, descriptive text. Maybe because I like roleplaying. Just "Stroke 10 Times", next paige "hit yourself 5 times" is so very boring. I really need to feel a womens character, it has to have SOME realism.

I can get around just about anything, but if you can't go a setenance without typoes or using SMS speak I will close out of it. It completely breaks immersion for me and spell check isnt a complicated process.

If you put the effort in to do an otherwise lovely tease, put in the extra 15 seconds to give the red squigles some lovin'.

Wow, okay you took that in the wrong way. I never said anything should be banned. (not in THIS post anyway). All I was doing was demonstrating the level of distaste for particular things you can find in teases.

You voiced your opinion against something you disagreed with. You have a right to do so, and I actually agree with what you said. However, seriously, no matter what I say or how I say it someone always find some way to make me sound like an asshole. Is that the general practice on the Milovana Forums, or am I somehow prime stock for being hated on.

-Abuse of timers. They're handy to keep a section hands free, but overuse just artificially lengthens a tease. Keep in mind, you don't have an audience by default, and your content must be interesting in some way. I'm not going to gamble my time on whether or not your tease is good if I have to wait through 10 minutes of timers before it starts making sense in some way.

-Way too much stroking. It's very obvious to tell when a person is just making a tease to have it up rather than trying to give people something good. Being told to edge and hold for 5 minutes is extreme, but doable. Being told to hold for 30 minutes is pointless and not erotic. If you don't understand how the body works...

- Or rather, "having no goal for the instructions other than to fill space". Text should be there to generate some type of effect, not to fulfill some imaginary quota. Telling me to stroke to 10 sets of 60 seconds isn't erotic on its own. It could be, but you really need to connect to your audience's sexuality in some way. Maybe it's by making the audience really feel like a human is really controlling their actions, or is on a mission to "really get to them". Maybe it's just good stroking patterns that really tease them, or give them a sensation of some kind. Just plastering the tease with senseless stroke commands isn't really telling me to do something I don't already know!

Nice to read all the different opinions.

For me it's difficult to say, what I specifically want or not. It depents on my mood. Some days I just want to have fun and beeing told to stroke, edge, etc. Of course there should be a good encouragement to do.
Other days I prefer reading interesting storys and fall deeply into imagination.

But what's not good at all (in my opinion) are:
- too long delays (more than 30s)
- the order to edge several times at one page
- A lot of text in one page and a delay. Either you can't finish reading befor the time is up, or you read too fast and have to wait.. -> a continue button for those pages is the best solution.
- Pages, where you have to read a text and stroke xx times (and you only have xx time to do). HOW do you manage this?

The choice of pictures is personal taste, so I wont say something about that.

It's not often I do a tease anymore, but I'll usually just read them for fun and squirmsies. Though once in a blue moon I'll try one out again. :3

Aand, as such..

Things that take the enjoyment out of it:

- Bad spelling and grammar
- Pages and pages with just a picture and 3 words, like "Stroke xx minutes"
- Very long timers with no change in picture or text
- Long timers with a goal like "edge as fast as you can" without having a "done" button to skip the rest
- Oor, "go very fast" or "stroke as fast as you can for xx minutes" .. like I could ever hold back if I did that for 10 seconds >.<

A fewthings come to mind for me that are annoying/deter from the experience though I think they've been said before:

Doing a number of strokes, I find it an annoying distraction from being able to enjoy myself to have to count the strokes I'm doing.

Metronomes/specified speeds (ie. 3 strokes/second), I like setting my pace and then vary by instructions to speed up or slow down or average pace for me etc. everyone's got a different speed they like so let them follow what works for them rather than be perscriptive (also is 4 strokes/second even possible?).

Last one that I don't think has been mentioned is using images of the same model from different shoots without a reason for their outfit to change; this really breaks the imersive feeling of a tease.

(All other peeves on spelling, long timers and timers with words have been well covered already.)
