Passworded teases..

Postby BeachBum » Fri Jul 30, 2010 11:41 am

Just wanted to put my 2 cents, into this more and more prevalent practice. I for one don't like them. If I see a tease that I might like and then get into and have to put in a pw, arrrg... what a disappointment. Sure I could go through the originating tease to get it, but I may not want to, depending on the topic/tags that may have been associated with it...

Just free them up and let the user decide if they want to do the preceding teases.....

hmm for some of the chastity style teases then i think its only fair. as its kinda out of order for them to be opt in and outable as they are designed to be a long series.

I have to agree with the BeachBum. It seems like teases requiring passwords represent the majority of the teases being posted recently. No offense to the author(s), from what I've seen they have some awesome qualities to them.

On the other hand, some people don't have hours to spend every day on guessing some porn star's shoe size and favorite color, only to get past that and have to remember which sequal to Horny Housewifes Humping Hung Horses they didn't appear in. Frankly, it just isn't worth the time it involves. It's like those reading intensive courses in college. If you plan to read three chapters a day and get lazy one day, then you find yourself needing to read six chapters the next day or you'll never catch up.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if more people were posting non-password teases, then I wouldn't feel I was missing out. So, get busy guys.

--------------------------------------

Okay, after posting this, I just felt the need to clarify ... When I mentioned the "majority" of teases lately it isn't just the "Giving up control series" but a combination of teases in a series and flash teases that seem to pervade all at once. The other series (Adri) is neither a flashtease nor password required, but a series for which I missed the first dozen or so installments. And then there are all those flash teases which are very slow to work on my computer, so a great deal of time is invested there before I can see whether or not it appears to be any good.

So, even though I stand behind my being in agreement with BeachBum, you probably won't hear from me again for a while as I go back and check out all the Adri teases.

People might be annoyed at me for this. But it's something I figured out a long, long time ago, and something green posted for the first time on the boards a while after that. Take the flashtease URL of something like:

Code: Select all
http://www.milovana.com/webteases/showflash.php?id=9158

And change the "showflash" portion to "getscript". So it looks something like:

Code: Select all
http://www.milovana.com/webteases/getscript.php?id=9158

Viola, and you can see the script yourself. You can use this in the previous tease to hunt for the password, or you can look at the logic of the tease requiring the password and figure it out on your own. I didn't tell you this. *looks away from rampaging authors* Honestly though, passwords are and should be left up to the tease authors to decide if they want. The majority of users don't know how to take the shortcut I mentioned, so they're still effective, but if you're determined to get around them enough, it's nice to know there's a way.

A tease is a tease .
Not a head game.

I am happy with passwords that show completing tasks.

Not solving riddles or puzzles.

I gave up on "Giving up control series" for that very reason.

I know which head I want to be teased,
It's closer to my groin than my eyes!!

I agree. The users have spoken. We appreciate the effort you all put into teases. If more guys are to enjoy them it might be a good idea to rethink the password thing.

I concur with the other posters. When I do a tease, I want to get off...not crack passwords.

I've avoided the "Giving Up Control" series for just that reason.

Passwords have a place. For example, the tease "Big Cock Browsing," is the good use a password in a tease.

I tend to agree.

I have always written my tease series so that I just recommend (in a kind of footnote) where to find earlier parts, but try to make the tease mostly self-contained. This sometimes involves having the first part of the tease recapitulate what has gone on earlier, but that can be done in an interesting and fun way too.

I dont mind them. Authors should be able to write a tease however they like.

Ive noticed with the giving up control series, the passworded ones get much less views, but much higher ratings. So I guess this shows that the passwords put a lot of people off but for the few that stick with it, the experience is well worth it.

Being the first (as all2true)
to Use a password idea
The idea is to FORCE you to go all the way through a tease
Not just flip through pages!

Now I grant you going through five or six teases
to get to the seventh and sitting through several you don't like
may seem annoying.
OR
it could be programming you to be a true submissive!

Now if you really hate passwords you could
take the cheat and peek at the tease
Or write the author (my suggestion)
Or actually do the tease!

I know, I know, I am definitely in the minority
And I actually try to do a teases (not just read them!)
So my suggestion is....

Write teases you like!
if you feel there are not enough of the kind you like it's time to write some!

I'm going to take the opposite side on this. I like the passworded teases. Why? Simple...most of them are high quality. They take you on a journey from beginning to end, and each step up the chain is usually another great experience. Jumping in and out of a series sort of ruins the effect, and if you have to do a certain thing or reach a certain goal to get to the next step, to me that just makes sense. Proving you got to that point is sort of like showing your devotion to the Mistress in the tease.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but if you're not interested in doing a passworded tease series as intented from beginning to end, then just don't do any of it. Otherwise, deal with it as written and as intended, and pretend that the woman on the screen is the Mistress you've been waiting to serve.

I think Ritz hit on the perfect solution.

Post the teases with passwords while the series is still in progress for the full experience for people who want to follow along.

Then, after a few weeks, take the passwords off so people browsing the archives don't have to go through all the trouble.

As an author who has used passwords a few times, in my opinion, it depends on what you're using the password for.

If they are meant only to make sure that the reader follows the entire series....then I think Ritz has the right idea. Lock 'em for a few weeks, then remove the passwords all together. Some users don't have the time to do the entire series. Some simply don't want to. Others may have done them before, but have gone back because they liked it. Now unless they're keeping a file somewhere with all the pass words in it, they have to start over from the beginning just to get back to the part they liked. That's annoying.

However, passwords do have their place too. As masterstroke pointed out, I thought the use of passwords in Big Cock Browsing was an interesting and unique way to frustrate the crap out of the user. It was afterall a tease, and that was the point.

Personally, I've used passwords on occasion as a "memory" device. When you begin the next part, the story picks up where you left off, not necessarily where everyone else left off. The original intent was to make sure that your decisions during the session could affect what happens next. However, after a few experiments with it, I found that it was becoming far more frustrating for me as the writer than it was for the readers. I had to keep all those choices straight, make sure all the links went to the right place, not to mention writing several different stories for each part of the series...... :-O ......became a LOT harder to impliment than I had anticipated. As a result, I never linked more than 2 parts together that way. So even if the passwords annoy you....you don't have to go all the way back to part 1 to get them.

I don't know how all the other authors feel about it, but for me, as Sexual Chocolate mentioned....I have no problem telling you the password if you ask. I have done so for some readers who followed one path, but were curious what other choices might have done and didn't want to re-do the entire tease to find out.
However....you might have to wait a bit for an answer because even I don't remember them now.

I am willing to put up with ANYTHING if the quality of teases is as good as those in the Giving up Control series!

The passwords, and the interaction with Audrey and the other characters makes these a lot more realistic, a lot more intense and totally worthwhile.
