A little effort goes a long way...
First of all, hello...this is my first post, but it should not be lost on you all that I felt it important enough to create an account just so I could voice this...
I've been following the various cock hero videos, torrents, and first and foremost the threads on here for maybe 5-6 months now. I must say, I greatly appreciate all the effort you guys put into making them. I've done a little bit of audio/video editing and I know its not easy.
However, with that being said...I think that the newer videos I'm seeing are getting lazier and lazier with the effort put into them. They have seemed to go from works of art with thought put into video order and choice, efforts such as beat meters or encouragement/taunts and the choice of music order; to what I've seen lately. Honestly, what I've seen lately seems to have gotten so lazy that I might as well throw on any compilation video I can find and put my own CD on. Which kinda makes one wonder, what's the point?
You can tell when someone has put some strong effort into what was put on the screen. I guess just as a reminder to those of you trying to make them - the bit of effort you put in goes a long way. So please, when you're asking yourself whether you should wait that extra bit it would take to throw a beat meter on something, or if it means anything that you add those instructions or taunts or whatever you choose; the answer (imo) is yes...

Re: A little effort goes a long way...
some people seem to be exploring different beat illustrations or instructions. Sometimes it actually works better (eg. Flux Dance). Sometimes it does not work better. we have to experiment until we get the formula right.
Re: A little effort goes a long way...
I actually prefer the ones that only got the audio indicator (Stroker Ace, Flux Dance) and not the visual strokemeter (usually too distracted to watch it anyways).

Think about movie reviews. Many people have different tastes when it comes to movies and it's really, really hard to make a movie that everyone likes.
Like in most creative endeavors one can never successfully predict what other people will like to any degree of certainty. In my opinion the best thing to do is create something that makes YOU happy and hope enough other people have similar tastes.
Good luck and don't give up!

Re: A little effort goes a long way...
I'm really grateful to anyone who makes the effort to create one of these.
My limited understanding of this stuff is that the quality of video you can produce isn't just a product of how many hours you're willing to put in, which is what's implied when the OP calls some people "lazy". Sure, you can improve things if you spend longer on your video, but overall creativity, experience and knowing your stuff are all really important too. If I were to create something, having never done any video editing before, it seems unrealistic to expect me to come out with something matching some of the masterpieces produced over the last few years on this site.
Like I said to start with - huge thanks to anyone who puts in the hours to make a CH type video. There are bound to be some people who really enjoy it, no matter what the underlying quality is, and there's always lots of helpful constructive criticism for people who want to improve and learn more.
Keep up the good work all you fantastic creators, new and old, amateur and pro, young and old.
So as we say in England guys, "cheers!"

Yeah, I agree! Which is why my cock hero (if it ever gets made) will be without beat meter not out of lazyness, but out of preference. :)asd1974 wrote:I actually prefer the ones that only got the audio indicator (Stroker Ace, Flux Dance) and not the visual strokemeter (usually too distracted to watch it anyways).
I don't feel the creators are lazy, and think it's really cool what people are making here, and for free! Had some great times with and without the beatmeter. :) Keep it up everyone, I say!

Now now...lets not go putting words in my mouth guys - I'm not implying, or certainly didn't intend to imply and I'm sorry if it came across that the creators of the newer vids are in fact lazy. I know plenty of very very hard working individuals who get lax once in a while and that's all I was saying. I know that everyone has their personal tastes and I enjoy plenty of the non-beat-metered videos as well.
I just have noticed an overall lower quality in the newer videos. Again, that's my opinion. Granted, that may not even be due to lack of effort since many things get experimented with. I guess my bigger concern is that I've run across a few recently that honestly didn't feel like a hero vid at all. There was just lots of raucous porn with no real build, no tease, and barely any instruction or apparent thought put into the finished product. By the end of them I felt like "wtf was the point in that?" and like I said in the OP that I could have just slapped on any old compilation vid and a CD and had the same thing.
Either way, I started the conversation and hopefully it will continue and be productive; because I'm definitely not here just to call people names or be overly critical of their efforts. Constructive feedback can be a very good thing and I hope to contribute to that.

What it feels like to me, is that a lot of the newer contributions have been by newer creators. Speaking from experience, the first run at a CH is definitely a learning experience. While some of the creations may not be up to each of our personal standards, I enjoy seeing the progressive curve when these creators make subsequent CH videos.
I'm very pleased with how my current CH is coming along, and when I look at my first, second and even third, I can see where I've changed and improved. Each video is a learning process and I imagine it's like that for many of the newer creators. That being said, sometimes you learn mid-creation and it's a huge undertaking to then go back over all the work you've already done to bring it up to snuff, but lazy isn't the word I would use haha! I feel it would be tedious. You know the new methods or techniques now, but you don't want to redo everything. You'll clean it up on the rest and on the next video.

This. Video editing is like any other art form, you don't start out sculpting the Statue of David day one. As much as everyone touts Vindicare's latest work around here as a new 'standard' of tease video, go back and look at Flux 1 and notice the leap in quality to Flux Dance 1 and 2.Jackal403 wrote:What it feels like to me, is that a lot of the newer contributions have been by newer creators.
This is even magnified by the fact that most of the new contributors are even first time video editors. Familiarity with the software takes a long time to master, (as I'm currently learning), and I think if they stick with it we'll see a lot of great releases in the future. Quite frankly, I think that the products they've produced on their first go-arounds have been outstanding considering the experience levels involved.
That said, to the creators: Please don't let negative criticisms like this hamper your efforts. Playing along with the CH community has been some of the most fun my right hand and I have had in quite a while, and together we happily look forward to what you come up with in the future. Please keep making videos, and please keep trying to improve in your efforts to do so. I'm sure there are many more out there who are enthusiastic in joining me when I say; THANK YOU!
To the community: Please don't continue to perpetuate negative criticism. Making these videos is a massive time-sink and is truly a labor of love, as anyone who's even glanced at the Adobe Premier UI can tell you. If you have ways the videos can be improved, or ideas you'd like to see, I encourage you to speak out and share, but please do it in a positive, constructive manner. We have numerous threads floating around right now dedicated to exactly that, and I'm sure content creators are always looking for new ideas and suggestions.

Wow, if this is truly your attitude about what I brought up you need some thicker fucking skin. Sorry for the "harsh words" but I thought we were adults here. I'll leave now so you can put your fucking kid gloves back on and hand everyone a damn trophy. Good luck...apparently bringing up what I did rubbed some of you the wrong way but I'm not apologizing for it or making my intent known again since you can't fucking read what was said anyway. or maybe in your case, you were just too lazy to...twl1 wrote:To the community: Please don't continue to perpetuate negative criticism.
