Is the "Domination for your tiny little dick" tease spam ? It just has a link to spam surveys and links to games to download.

How to react to forum spam
OK, I see. Thanks. But this way, you have to react to any report including possible multiple ones from different users, which may become every tiresome in case of real spam floods. My suggestion allows you to kill a bunch of threads at a time.

Seeing all the SPAM is getting quite distracting. Anyone able to remove it? I've marked some of it.

I'm removing as much of it as I can find time for. Have probably deleted around 500 posts at least in the last week, unfortunately, I can't be here 24/7.dukiesnud wrote:Seeing all the SPAM is getting quite distracting. Anyone able to remove it? I've marked some of it.
My ban hammer is bloody and gore soaked from all the spammers *chuckles*

Re: How to react to forum spam
Region bans would not help you. Spam bots are all over the place, for all you know, the bot can be hosted in Brazil and send Russian spam, along with spam on 100 other languages. And those bots are not built to last, they change their location all the time.
Really, all you can realistically do is banning accounts and deleting threads. Maybe make an authorizarion/registration system harder for bots to go through. That's it.

Re: How to react to forum spam
Nez is correct, blanket bans wouldn't be the way to go, we don't want to lock out genuine users. And he's also correct when he says that the spammers are not based in Russia. Yes there are a lot of Russian links and a lot of the posts are in Russian, but the locations correlating to the IPs are from all over the world. So it's not as simple as banning posters who link to Russian sites, or people who are signing up from Vladivostock.
Things have calmed a little over the last few days, so hopefully that trend continues.

Googles recaptcha seems to be good at stopping spam bots: https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/index.html
Also looks like you could do with some extra forum moderators to delete all the spam >.<

Re: How to react to forum spam
Not a complaint at all, since I know this community is a labour of love by those who are more willing or able than many of us (including me) to take the time to help, but I would just note that of late it seems like there is way more SPAM than there used to be on the forums. I think of the 'recent posts' box right now, 1/3 are spam posts.
Thanks

Re: How to react to forum spam
Yeah, I'm afraid it's just something we have to deal with for the time being. We aren't getting nearly as much as we were a couple of months ago. We've stopped new spambots signing up, but there are dozens if not hundreds of sleeper accounts that keep popping up. It's just a matter of dealing with them when they pop up. If you see spam, please report it.DrPain wrote:Not a complaint at all, since I know this community is a labour of love by those who are more willing or able than many of us (including me) to take the time to help, but I would just note that of late it seems like there is way more SPAM than there used to be on the forums.
