Well you know what an edge is, you are basically within a few seconds of cumming. Then you slow down to keep yourself there. You don't go over, you stroke enough to keep yourself just a few good strokes away from that orgasm.

basically I can only echo what these guys have already said. It takes a lot of practise to get really good at it, there's no perfect way to do it as everyone has their own way of masturbating, you are the only one that knows your own body.
