[FEEDBACK] Cock Hero - The, End?

Post by jester1981 »

Hi,

I thought my first attempt at creating a video went fairly well.

However I thought I would solicit input as I know there is room for improvement.

Please let me know what you think.

If you haven't tried it yet,the link is here.

A couple of technical considerations...

Here's one thing I would change:

These are the double beats early on (Timecode: 01:02:14:18) I've put down a BPM grid at 128 because I think that's the BPM of the music. Don't worry too much about where it's placed because I just eyeballed it quick. However, notice how your double beat is early compared to where the middle of the bar is. This creates this clear off-rhythm beat, which I would correct so it's on the beat.

Next up, cuts:

This is at Timecode 01:06:08:07. Notice how all of your cuts are random with no rhythmic input. Typically, you want the cuts to follow the rhythm. Either by cutting on a beat, or cutting where there would have been a beat. Think of the edits as if they are also playing an instrument along to the music, and you'd get the idea. Imagine if there was a big cowbell sound every time you did a cut in the above, and you would quickly find how little rhythmic input comes from the cuts.

The other problem is that all of your cuts are multiples of 24 frames, or very close to being so. This makes it monotone and predictable what is going on in the cut length. Furthermore, it's unlikely the main action in each clip is going to take 24 or 48 frames. You want to mix this up. Hold some shots for longer, especially if the content suggests it can be held.

At timecode 01:05:59:13 and 01:11:41:11, your sound clips at full scale. This is likely because your beat is very loud and the music has built to the point where it's also pretty loud. When you combine two loud sounds, you can get clipping. Generally, you want to do a sound design pass, making sure the beat doesn't totally overpower the music. You certainly don't want clipping. It's clearly audible in my headphones.

At timecode 01:10:15:24 your sound cuts out and has a transient. If you want to loop stuff, you need audio dissolves.

Color processing is off. Take the shot at 01:03:59:12 for instance. Your waveform looks like:

Notice how you have a lot of clipping at maximum brightness in that shot. Your highlights are basically blown out. Now, a lot of porn has been filmed with either over or under-exposure, but when you do compositing, it can get even worse. Furthermore, that particular shot has the following vectorscope:

The line pointing to the north-west is the skin-tone indicator. The skin tones in the shot are off. They have too much yellow in them. Pushing some blue into this image improves it by a lot. It would center the color at the origin point and also push the skin tones back where they belong.

There's more than this which could be improved for sure, but you gotta start somewhere and those things were the first that hit me when I took a quick look.
